Grief at Christmas

Grief at Christmas

This time of year can be a very difficult time for families and individuals who are grieving a loved one, be it recent or not. Emotions of grief, sadness, even depression can ruin your joy of Christmas time.

It doesn’t have to be a family member, it can be a friend or your pet. If you will be missing someone you loved this holiday season, how are you going to cope with your new feelings and emotions at Christmas time?

It’s good to acknowledge that this Christmas will be hard and different. You may want to be in a familiar place that will spark fond memories for you, or you may want to be somewhere totally different to keep your mind away from the grief.

Old Photo Book

You may want to bring out old photo albums to laugh over and reminisce with family and friends. Photos of holidays, family, children, special occasions can all be great memories of fun times had.

It’s clear that many people will have intense emotions at Christmas, and if this is the case for you, the best thing is for you is to not avoid or hide from your emotions and accept that you may not feel your best.
